Lacrosse Topped By North Carolina 12-8

Chapel Hill, N.C. - The Boston College women's lacrosse team lost to the University of North Carolina Tar Heels on Saturday afternoon 12-8.
The Eagles are now 7-4 on the season and 0-3 in the ACC.
Sophomore Kristin Igoe scored the lone goal of the period for the Eagles with North Carolina holding a 6-1 advantage heading into half time. Senior goalkeeper Katie Monaghan kept the score close making four saves in the first including one on a free position attempt to keep the Eagles in striking distance to start the second. North Carolina held a 14-6 advantage in shots in the first half.
North Carolina won the opening draw control in the second half, scoring 44 seconds into the frame. The Tar Heels led 8-1 before senior Maura Mahoney notched her first goal of the game at 4:45 into the frame. UNC answered with a goal less than a minute later for a 9-2 lead. The Eagles picked up their third goal of the game from sophomore Jill Rekart at 7:38. Rekart was awarded a free position after being fouled by a Tar Heels defender, her initial shot was saved but Igoe regained control of the ball and passed to Rekart for the goal. Carolina added two more goals for an 11-3 score with just over 14 minutes to play.
The Eagles tallied two free position goals from senior Jenna McCabe and sophomore Hannah Alley in 41 seconds. After a North Carolina timeout, freshman Brittany Wilton won the opening draw control and Igoe netted her second goal of the game to give BC a three goal run and cut the Tar Heels lead to five.
North Caroline answered with a goal with less than five minutes left to play to give them a 12-6 lead, but the Eagles responded with a goal by Mahoney with a minute to play to cut the lead back down to five. Mahoney would add another goal with 19 second to play to cut the lead to four, but a barrage of shots to end the period were get past the Tar Heels who would end the game with a 12-8 victory.
The Eagles outscored UNC in the second half, netting seven goals on 17 shots to the Tar Heels six goals on 19 shots.
Monaghan made four more saves in the second period for a game total of eight.
The Eagles open their home ACC schedule with a match-up against the Virginia Cavaliers on Saturday April 4 at 1 p.m.
