COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Boston College baseball team scored four runs in the top of the first and senior JB MacDonald took care of the rest as the Eagles defeated Maryland, 6-2, Friday night at Shipley Field. MacDonald threw 7.2 innings and allowed two runs on eight hits for his second win of the season.

Sophomores Matt Hamlet and Mike Sudol both had three hits in the game while sophomore Mickey Wiswall added two. Hamlet scored a pair of runs while junior Barry Butera had two RBI.
Hamlet started the four-run first inning rally when he went opposite field on a 2-2 count for a single and junior Tony Sanchez forced a walk to put two men on with one out. Wiswall battled at the plate when he was down and turned it into an RBI single up the middle on a 1-2 count to give the Eagles the early edge.
Junior Mike Belfiore ripped a pitch down the first base line for a double for another BC run and then Butera laid down a perfect bunt to plate Wiswall. Freshman Brad Zapenas drove in the inning's final run when he singled up the middle to drive in Belfiore from third.
Maryland got on the board in the third inning when A.J. Casario and David Poutier hit consecutive singles to put runners on the corners. Will Greenberg then delivered the first run of the game for the Terps with a sac fly to center.
BC got that run back in the top of the fourth when Zapenas led off the inning when he got hit by a pitch. Sudol roped a double down the line in left that brought Zapenas all the way around to push the lead back to four, 5-1.
The Eagles (12-5, 3-2 ACC) tacked on another run in the seventh to extend the lead to five runs. Hamlet ripped a double down the third base line to start the frame and got to third on a Sanchez groundout. Wiswall reached on an infield single down the third base line and then Butera hit the gap in right-center for a double to plate Hamlet and push the lead to 6-1. Wiswall was thrown out at the plate trying to score behind Hamlet to end the inning.
Mike Murphy provided the Terps with another run when he took a pitch over the wall in left-center in the bottom of the eighth.
Casario and Murphy both had two hits for the Terps (9-10, 2-5 ACC).
