Lacrosse Wins First Game of Season 18-13

Buffalo, N.Y. - The Boston College women's lacrosse team opened the 2009 season with an 18-13 win over Canisius College in New York on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles struck first, netting two goals in quick succession to take the lead, a lead which they would never relinquish.
Sophomores Jill Amo and Kristin Igoe combined on BC's first goal of the game just over two minutes into the first half, it was Igoe's first collegiate point after taking a medical redshirt her freshman year.
Senior Jenna McCabe quickly made it a 2-0 game with an unassisted tally.
Canisius got on the board with a tally to make it 2-1
McCabe followed up with two more goals in succession, the first off a free position shot and the second assisted by junior Lauren Costello.
BC and the Griffins traded goals throughout the first before closing out the first half with goals from McCabe, senior Maura Mahoney and Amo, to give the Eagles an 11-5 lead.
The Griffins struck first in the second half, before BC rolled out a four goals for the 15-6 lead.
The Eagles tallied three more goals in the second half for the win.
McCabe led the team with six goals and eight shots.
Freshman Nicole Tufariello and Sam Taylor both recorded their first collegiate goals in the victory, and Brittany Wilton picked up her first collegiate point with an assist.
BC outshot Canisius 36-22 in the game.
Senior goalkeeper Katie Monaghan made five saves in the game.
The Eagles continue their New York road trip with a game against Niagara on Sunday Feb. 22 at 12 p.m.
