GREENSBORO, N.C. - Four Boston College football student-athletes - kicker Steve Aponavicius, offensive lineman Anthony Castonzo, running back Montel Harris and linebacker Mark Herzlich - have been named to the 40-member 2009 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Football Team, announced Monday by Commissioner John Swofford.
To be eligible for consideration, a player must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career. All 12 ACC schools were represented by at least one selection on the team.
Aponavicius (double major in marketing and finance), Castonzo (biochemistry) and Herzlich (marketing and finance) have each been named to the team before. This marks Aponavicius' third selection to the All-ACC Academic Team while Castonzo and Herzlich were named for the second year in a row.
