CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College volleyball team was defeated by Clemson 3-1 on Sunday at the Power Gymnasium in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
The Eagles are now 11-15 on the year while Clemson moves to 20-7.
Boston College started off the first set strong, holding steady with Clemson and gaining a quick 5-2 edge in the first set. Senior Taylor Williams led the way with three kills and junior Kristen Baader's 10 digs kept the momentum up for the Eagles. The team was unable to finish what they had started, however, and BC dropped the opening frame 25-19.
The Tigers took over the second set quickly as BC was unable to catch its footing and make a comeback. The Eagles improved their kill total from 10 to 11 and made a drastic change in their hitting percentage, jumping from .029 to .190 in the set. Still, the Tigers were too strong for BC and Clemson took the second set, 25-14.
The Eagles looked like they were finding their stride in the third frame, grabbing a 12-11 lead before Clemson used its first timeout in the set. The two teams managed to tie the set at 24-24 when the Eagles made a quick run against the Tigers and took the set 28-26.
BC looked to keep its great play continuing in the fourth set but Clemson was not ready to give the match away yet. Despite the fantastic comeback effort, the Eagles were unable to finish what they started and Clemson took the fourth set and the match.
BC was led on offense by Williams and sophomore Rainey Hanley who posted 14 kills each for the Eagles. The defense had three different players with 20+ digs as Hanley tallied 20, sophomore Brennan Clark had 23 and Baader added 24.
The Eagles will return to the Power Gymnasium in Chestnut Hill on Friday, Nov. 13 to take on North Carolina State at 8:00 p.m.
