Huckins Breaks BC Weight Throw Record

BOSTON, Mass. - Freshman Kelsey Huckins broke the Boston College weight throw record with a toss of 16.37m on January 23 at the Terrier Invitational held at the BU Track and Tennis Center. She eclipsed Paige MacTavish who held the record since 1994.
Huckins' history making throw also qualified her for the ECAC Championships. MacTavish was the previous record holder with a mark of 15.57m.
Graduate student Mary Heitkamp was the lone winner for the Eagles with a victory in the 1000m. She won the race with a time of 2:49.49 which is the fourth best time in Eagles' history. It was just 3.02 seconds off of the program record set by Angie Graham in 1997. Heitkamp, junior Samantha Gawrych and sophomore Siobhan Breagy qualified for the ECAC Championships. Breagy scored a time of 2:51.47 to finish fourth while Gawrych finished fifth at 2:51.54.
Junior Caitlyn Bailey and freshman Anna Cioffredi finished fourth and fifth in the 500m dash with times of 1:14.07 and 1:14.14, respectively.
Sophomore Madeline Wallace qualified for the ECAC Championships in the 800m with a mark of 2:13.65 in the 800m run. She finished fourth in the event on Friday. Junior Gretchen Andrus will join her in the mile with a time of 4:52.62 which also put her in fourth place.
Senior Mallory Champa's 9:47.33 in the 3000m qualified her for the ECAC Championships and put her in 10th place overall in the event. Junior Brielle Chabot also qualified with a time of 9:50.13.
The women will compete next Friday in the Northeastern Reebok Collegiate event at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
