Women's Track & Field Competes At BU Quad Meet

BOSTON, Mass. - The Boston College women's track & field team went 1-2 at the Boston University Quad Meet on January 15 at the BU Track & Tennis Center. Junior Caitlyn Bailey and freshmen Anna Cioffredi and Sara Missert took home wins for the women in their respective events while the 4x400m relay team also won.
The Eagles defeated Massachusetts 71-63 but lost to Boston University (69-52) and Sacred Heart (72-66).
Bailey won the 1000m run with a time of 2:51.97 which was almost seven seconds better than sophomore Madeline Wallace who came in second at 2:58.58. Freshman Heather Garcia came in third in the event, crossing the finish line in 3:04.61.
Cioffredi picked up a pair of wins during the event. She won her section of the 200m dash with a time of 25.45 which was the second-fastest time at the meet. Cioffredi also won the 500m dash, running it in 1:15.38.
Missert won her section of the 200m dash with a time of 26.74. Fellow freshman Rory Cellucci finished right behind her at 26.88. Junior Teyahnie Boone finished her section of the 200m dash with a time of 26.26.
The 4x400m relay team edged the Terriers' side by less than a second, finishing with a time of 3:56.91. BU crossed the line in 3:57.68.
Junior Meaghan Callahan came in second in the 400m dash, crossing in 58.21. Senior Alicia Henry finished in third behind Cioffredi in the 500m dash with a time of 1:17.61. Sophomore Siobhan Breagy took second in the mile at 5:07.58 while freshman Kaitlyn Cooney took third in the 800m at 2:19.95.
Freshman Georgette Asfoura took home second in the high jump with a leap of 1.65m. In the pole vault, classmate Emily Cornelius also finished second by clearing 5.01m. Junior Melissa Hadfield had the third best leap in the long jump with a mark of 5.21m.
Freshman Kelsey Huckins took second in the weight throw with a toss of 15.01m, the third best mark in BC history. She also recorded an 11.75m throw in the shot put. In just three collegiate meets, Huckins owns three of the top five BC weight throw marks and has the fifth-longest shot put in history.
The women return to the BU Track & Tennis Center next Friday to compete in the Terrier Invitational on January 23. Action is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
