Chestnut Hill, MA -
Senior Caroline Walden scored one goal and had two assists to lead No. 13 Boston College to a 3-0 victory over Brown University (1-0) tonight in a non-conference game. BC is now 3-1-0 and will host the University of Toledo on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 1 p.m.
Walden got the Eagles on the board at 30:48. Walden received the ball from senior Caitlin Hiler off a corner kick. Walden took one dribble and struck the ball low and to the near post by a diving Brown goalkeeper Brenna Hogue (12 saves). It was Walden's first goal of the season.
Freshman Alaina Beyar gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead at 43:24. Beyar ran onto a nice through ball from junior Kelly Henderson. The freshman forward raced by the Brown defender and placed the ball by Hogue. Walden started the play when she won a 50-50 ball and found Henderson in the middle of the field.
Walden's second assist of the game came when she sent sophomore Amy Caldwell up the sideline into the box. Caldwell crossed the ball towards the goal where junior Gina DiMartino one-timed a shot high for a 3-0 BC lead at 71:18. It was DiMartino's first goal of the season.
Boston College freshman goalkeeper Jillian Mastroianni earned her second career shutout.
The Eagles outshot the Bears, 26-5. BC also had nine corner kicks to Brown's three.
