September 07, 2008 | Women's Soccer
Sophomore Natalie Crutchfield scored two second half goals to lead Boston College past the University of Toledo, 5-2, in a nonconference game.
The win gives BC a 4-1-0 record, while Toledo dropped to 2-1-0 on the season.
Both of Crutchfield's goals came in the second half. The sophomore gave BC a 4-0 lead in the 69th minute of play when she was sent in the box on a great pass from senior Caitlin Hiler. Crutchfield calmly placed her shot by a diving Angela Righeimer.
Toledo closed the four goal gap on two quick goals in a three minute span. Heather Wesley scored in the 75th minute, followed by a goal by Brittany Hensler at 77:34.
The momentum was on the Rockets side until Crutchfield struck again. BC's speedy forward beat out a Toledo defender for a 50-50 ball, took three dribbles into the box and placed it into the back of the net for a 5-2 lead.
BC controlled the first half as the Eagles out shot Toledo, 8-1. The Eagles went up 2-0 in the half on goals by two freshmen - Julia Bouchelle and Stephanie Wirth. Bouchelle now has two goals on the season, while Wirth notched the first of her career.
The Eagles third goal was scored by Brooke Knowlton at 62:07. It was Knowlton's second goal and first game-winning goal of the season.
Boston College finished the game with 16 shots, while the Rockets had seven. BC's freshman goalkeeper Jillian Mastroianni had four saves.
