New Haven, CT - In the first game of the Yale Invitational, Boston College suffered a 3-0 setback to host Yale at the John J. Lee Amphitheatre by a score of 25-16, 25-23, and 25-23.
With the loss, the Eagles fell to 3-4 on the season while the Bulldogs improved to 1-0.
In the first set, despite matching the Bulldogs with 13 kills, the Eagles could not overcome five attack errors. In contrast, Yale committed no errors on the attack for a hitting percentage of .400.
The second set was more evenly contested, with the two teams trading the lead four times. Facing two set points, the Eagles rallied for two consecutive points off a kill by Jordan Meredith and a Yale attack error, forcing the home team to call a timeout at 24-23. But the Bulldogs closed out the set with a kill on the next point.
The Eagles led much of the third set, until Yale rallied off a block and a kill to take the lead for the first time at 17-16. Once again facing set point, BC rallied for two straight kills, by Mollie Kolosky and Meredith, forcing a Yale timeout. But Yale again won the next point to close out the match.
Leading the way for the Eagles was Taylor Williams, who registered a team high attack percentage of .524 for the match with 12 kills and one attack error. Brittany Pierpont recorded 41 assists, and Jordan Meredith added 14 kills to go along with 14 digs, leading BC in both categories.
The Eagles will take on Hofstra tomorrow at 11:00 am in their second match of the Yale Invitational at John J. Lee Amphitheatre.
