CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The lights of Alumni Stadium were flipped on at 3:13 p.m. due to darkness and the rain started a few minutes later, but the wet conditions did not subdue a spirited Boston College football team's first practice in shells.
Junior free safety Marty Bowman commented on the weather prior to practice.
"During my freshman year it was sunny every day and I thought I could get used to it," he said. "In the end, it's still football so you just have to block it out."
Bowman, who sat out the last five games in 2007 with an injury, is excited about this year's defense, regarded as one of the best in the conference.
"I can't wait," he said. "When we're out there, our chemistry is so good. I know we lost a lot of leadership last year and everything but I feel that we haven't lost a step. We're still looking good and we're only going to get better."
The Eagles' ranked in the top 25 nationally in rushing defense (75.50), pass efficiency defense (113.17), total defense (329.36), and scoring defense (20.36). BC's rushing defense was tops in the ACC and second in the country only to Oregon State.
