Women's Soccer Suffers First Loss of Season

The Boston College women's soccer team fell to No. 10 Stanford, 3-0, in a non-conference game on the campus of Stanford University in Palo Alto, California.
The Eagles finished up at 1-1 on a two-game west coast road trip. BC defeated Oregon State on Friday, 3-0. BC will host Brown University in the home opener on Friday, Sept. 5 (5 p.m.). Stanford is now 3-0.
The Cardinal struck early as Christen Press scored the first goal just 3:22 into the game off a shot from 25-yards out. Stanford went up 2-0 just four minutes later on a goal by Teresa Noyola. BC regained its composure and finished the half tied in shots taken at six apiece.
The second half was evenly matched until BC's Brianna Wilson-Byrne received a red card in the 62nd minute of play. The Eagles played the remainder of the game down one player. The Cardinal scored in the 73rd minute on a goal by Lindsay Taylor.
BC's freshman goalkeeper Jillian Mastroianni suffered her first loss but did have eight saves in the match.
