Softball Falls in Series Finale Against Maryland

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College softball team (31-30, 7-14 ACC) honored its two departing seniors, Amanda Booth and Carley McNary Sunday, but were unable to complete the weekend sweep of Maryland (36-21, 7-14 ACC) at Commander Shea Field falling by a score of 8-0 in five innings.
Maryland nabbed the first two runs on two wild pitches by BC starter Allison Gage (18-18), one in the top of the first and again in the top of the second inning. Gage made her third straight start, giving her 34 this season. Through 2.1 innings she faced 13 batters, allowing five runs on four hits.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Eagles loaded the bases on two walks and a single by sophomore Dani Weir, her 31st hit on the season. BC came up empty after a force out and two strikeouts. The Terps tacked on four runs in the top of third inning, scoring two runs on an error and then a homerun, giving them a 6-0 advantage. Sophomore Taylor Peyton replaced Gage in the inning, making her 35th appearance on the season. She finished the game, giving up two runs on three hits and striking out two.
The Eagles loaded the bases again in the bottom of the fifth inning but failed to put a run across. Maryland scored the final two runs in the top of the fifth inning, adding three hits to tally seven hits in the game, winning the series finale by the 8-0 final.
Today's game marks the final regular season match-up for the Eagles. The team will travel to College Park, Md., to compete in the ACC Softball Championship beginning Thursday, May 8. Seeding and game times will be determined on Monday.
