Lacrosse Players Earn Northeast Region All-American Honors

Chestnut Hill, Mass. -Boston College juniors Jenna McCabe and Lauren Fitzpatrick and sophomore Lauren Costello were named Northeast Region All-America, according to the IWLCA's announcement on Thursday. McCabe earned first-team accolades while Fitzpatrick and Costello garnered second-team honors.
McCabe, an attacker from Brunswick, Maine, earned one of the 16 spots on the first team for her stellar play in the 2008 season. She notched at least one goal in all 17 games in her junior campaign and led the team with 43 goals. The captain also was second in points (55) and third in assists (12). McCabe tallied a season-high seven points on four goals and three assists in the win over Brown in the season finale on May 3.
McCabe reached 100 career points in 42 games, becoming the seventh-fastest player to do so in a BC uniform. She is one of only nine players to tally at least 100 points. Her 127 career points ranks seventh all-time. She was also named the All-ACC team for the second consecutive year.
Fitzpatrick also compiled a 17-game scoring streak in 2008. The midfielder from Westwood, Mass., was third on the team in points (42) and goals (37). She scored the game-winning goals in both of the Eagles' ACC victories, which were decided by one goal each. She nailed the gamewinner in the second overtime against North Carolina to give BC its first-ever win over the Tar Heels and a top-10 team. She also led the team with 23 caused turnovers, including five against Virginia Tech on March 15. Fitzpatrick's 64 career goals is 10th best in the BC record books.
Costello plays attack and hails from Levittown, N.Y. The sophomore is the second-fastest BC play to reach the 100-point mark as she accomplished the feat in only 34 games. She led the team with 58 points, which also ranks second all-time. She was second in goals (42) and assists (16). She scored in 16 of the 17 games and ended the season on a nine-game scoring streak. Costello recorded a career-high eight points in the each of the final two game of the season against Harvard on April 30 (7g, 1a) and Brown on May 3 (5g, 3a).
Even though she is only a sophomore, Costello graces the BC record books in career goals as she ties for seventh with 78 and ranks 10th in career points with 105.
The IWLCA honored 128 Division I student-athletes on one of eight regional teams in the four regions, Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, South and West/Midwest. All 128 players are eligible to make the IWLCA/US Lacrosse National All-American teams, which will be announced on May 29.
