Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College women's lacrosse team will take on No. 10 North Carolina on Thursday, April 24 at 3:30 p.m. in the first round of the ACC Tournament in Charlottesville, Va. The Eagles earned the fourth seed with a 2-3 conference record, the highest ranking BC has garnered since joining the ACC in 2006.
The Eagles, who are 6-8 on the season, beat the Tar Heels (11-5), 5-4, in a double overtime victory on March 29. It was the first time the Eagles beat a top-10 team and defeated the Heels. UNC now leads the all-time series, 3-1. Junior Lauren Fitzpatrick scored the winning goal 48 seconds in the second OT period.
Fitzpatrick and junior captain Jenna McCabe are currently riding 14-game scoring streaks, as they have notched at least one point in every game this season. Fitzpatrick has found the back of the net every time. The Eagles are coming off a two-game win streak as they defeated Vermont and Holy Cross last week. The Tar Heels have won three of their last five games, but dropped Sunday's matchup to top-ranked Northwestern, 16-3.
No. 3 Duke will take on No. 6 Virginia Tech to kick off the conference tournament on Thursday, April 24 at 1 p.m. The winner of that game will play No. 2 Virginia on Friday at 3 p.m. while the winner of the UNC-BC game will play No. 1 Maryland at 5:30 p.m. The championship game will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 27. All games will take place at Scott Stadium.
