Softball Takes One of Two from Georgia Tech

Atlanta, Ga. - In its return to conference action on the road, the Boston College softball team (24-25, 3-11 ACC) split Saturday's doubleheader with Georgia Tech, losing the first game by a score of 9-1 in six innings and winning the second game, 3-2, at Glenn Field.
Senior captain Carley McNary continued to battle hard for the Eagles at the plate, knocking out her first homerun of the season and tallying two RBIs in game two. She now has 25 hits and 21 RBIs this season.
Georgia Tech-9, BC-1-- Sophomore Taylor Peyton tallied the Eagles' only RBI in the game, as BC took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. After senior captain Amanda Booth singled to begin the inning and then advanced on sophomore Amy Tunstall's sacrifice hit, Peyton singled down the left field line, scoring Booth for her 18th RBI of the season.
Freshman pitcher Allison Gage (12-15) started for the 25th time this season, picking up the loss. She allowed nine runs on ten hits and struck out two in the game.
The Yellow Jackets got their bats working in the fourth inning, scoring four runs on five hits. Georgia Tech scored again for a 5-1 lead in the fifth inning and then put together four more runs in the sixth inning for the final 9-1 score.
BC-3 Georgia Tech-2-- The Eagles mounted three runs on 12 hits against the Yellow Jackets in the second game of the day. Peyton (12-9) proved to be a double threat, marking a perfect day at the plate and a solid day in the circle. She went 4-for-4 with two doubles and two singles and scored a run. Peyton also started her 20th game of the season, pitching six innings. Over the six innings she faced 26 batters, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out one.
McNary notched her two-run shot in the top of the second inning. Freshman Irene Delagrammaticas singled to begin the inning. With one out, McNary then homered down the left field line, scoring Delagrammaticas for the 2-0 Eagles advantage.
BC scored again in the top of the third inning. Peyton doubled for the first time in the game with one out. Junior Renee Ramos then knocked Peyton home on her sixth double of the season, giving the Eagles a 3-0 lead.
Georgia Tech homered twice in the game, once in the bottom of the fourth inning and again in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Yellow Jackets were unable to complete the come-from behind victory as Gage came in to pitch the bottom of the seventh inning, picking up her third save of the season. She faced four batters, giving up just one hit.
The Eagles and Yellow Jackets will play in the third game of the weekend series tomorrow, April. The game is slated for 1 p.m. at Glenn Field in Atlanta, Ga.
