Atlanta, Ga. - At the second day of competition at the 2008 ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, senior Kasey Hill continued to make her mark on Boston College record books, scoring the highest point total in the heptathlon and winning the ACC title with 5,521 points Friday.
Hill, who became BC's first-ever ACC individual champion in the pentathlon at the 2008 ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships, continued her success with another ACC title. Her score of 5,521 breaks her personal record of 5,423 points from 2006. The point-mark automatically qualifies her for the NCAA Championships as well.
In the seven events overall, Hill placed first in the 800m (2:17.11), third in the javelin (127'7") and shot put (38' 6.75"), sixth in the long jump (17' 4.25"), and second in the 200m (24.52), high jump (5' 6.5") and 100m hurdles (14.17).
Senior Tiana Riel took second right behind Hill in the heptathlon with 5, 279 points, a personal best. Her points place her third on BC's all-time performance list and are a provisional qualifying mark for the NCAAs.
Also for the Eagles, three women (senior Mary Heitkamp, sophomore Caitlin Bailey and Samantha Gawrych) qualified for the 800m championship, while freshman Caroling King and sophomore Jessica Driscoll qualified for the 1500m championship.
BC ranks seventh overall with 23 points. Virginia Tech leads all 12 squads with 72 points. Day three action begins at 10 a.m. tomorrow morning.
