CHESTNUT HILL, MA - The Coed Sailing Team defended its New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association Conference Championship this past weekend at Salve Regina. For the second consecutive year, the Eagles pulled ahead of the field of 18 on the second day of competition.
Juniors Brian Kamilar and Andrew Schneider set the tone early on Sunday, scoring a second and a third in their first two races. Kamilar and Schneider's success started the Eagles push towards closing the gap on first-day leaders - Brown University.
In the B Division, Reed Johnson and Julie Howe helped the Eagles gain the lead over Brown when they placed eleventh and first in their races.
Boston College never looked back, extending its lead throughout the day. Kamilar/Schneider went on to win A Division, and BC won the overall title by 25 points.
The Conference Championship victory qualifies Boston College for the semi-finals of the ICSA Coed National Championships - to be sailed in two weeks at Hobart/William Smith.
In addition to winning the Coed Conference Championship, the Boston College Sailing Team won the Moody Intersectional, the Gibb Trophy, and the Oberg Trophy, as well as finishing 2nd at the Duplin Women's Intersectional.
Juniors Parker Dwyer and Allie Nagle in A Division and Tyler Sinks/Lauren Gillooly in B Division dominated the 16-team Moody Intersectional at URI. They captured the A and B division comfortably and took the overall win by an impressive 81 points - half the points of second place St. Mary's.
On the Charles River, freshmen Taylor Canfield/Laura Ann Keller and Halsey Richartz/Katy Nastro won the Gibb Trophy at Boston University.
Alan Frith/Emily Migliaccio along with Chas Bayer/Quinn Ziatyk came from behind on Sunday to take the Oberg Trophy. The women's team took second at the Duplin Trophy, sailed in BC's home waters in Dorchester Bay.
The women's team looks to qualify for the ICSA Women's National Championships when the Eagles travel to Yale next weekend for the Conference Championships.
