Softball Drops Series Finale Against No. 19 Virginia Tech

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College softball team (20-24, 2-10 ACC) was out-dueled in a pitcher's battle against 19th-ranked Virginia Tech (32-11, 13-2 ACC), losing by a score 3-0 Sunday at Commander Shea Field
Freshman Allison Gage (9-14) threw five scoreless innings against the Hokies, allowing just two hits over those innings. In all, she faced 28 batters, allowing two earned runs on six hits and striking out one. Her seven-innings pitched marks her 12th complete game this season, leading the team.
Both teams went scoreless into the top of sixth inning. BC got its hit from senior captain Amanda Booth, who singled to begin the fourth inning, tallying her 16th hit this season. In the top of the sixth inning, Virginia Tech scored three unanswered runs off a single and a double. Neither team scored again, as the Hokies won the final game of the weekend series by the 3-0 score. Senior pitcher Angela Tincher (23-5) earned the one-hit win, striking out 12 BC batters total.
BC will play in a mid-week match-up against Boston University on Wednesday, April 16. Originally slated as a single game at Commander Shea Field, the teams will play in a make-up doubleheader at Boston University with the first game beginning at 3 p.m.
