Softball Splits Doubleheader Against Florida State

Tallahassee, Fla. - In its second ACC match-up of the season, the Boston College softball team (19-16, 2-3 ACC) combined for six runs and eleven hits over two games against Florida State (28-13, 5-3 ACC), losing the first game 1-0 and winning the second game 6-1 at JoAnne Graf Field Saturday afternoon.
Boston College pitchers Allison Gage and Taylor Peyton shined in the circle, allowing just two Florida State runs to score on the day. Combined, Gage and Peyton faced 51 batters, allowing nine hits and tallying one strikeout.
Florida State-1, BC-0-- Senior Amanda Booth, sophomore Amy Tunstall and freshman Irene Delagrammaticas all collected the Eagles' three total hits, as Florida State pitcher senior Tiffany McDonald held the Eagles to no runs and striking out 15 batters in game one.
Gage (8-10) started for the Eagles, allowing just one run on four hits in six innings. The Seminoles' lone run came in the bottom of the fourth inning on a two-out single by freshman Ashley Stager. Gage has started in a team-leading 17 games and collected her eighth complete game of the season against FSU.
BC- 6 Florida State-1-- Peyton (11-5) continued to dominate in the circle for BC, allowing one run on five hits over seven innings in game two. She faced a total of 29 batters, walking three and striking out one in her 11th win.
Boston College took the early advantage against the Seminoles in the top of the second inning. Tunstall led the inning off with a single. Freshman Alison Kooistra, who came in to pinch run, Delagrammaticas, who walked, moved to second and third base on a wild pitch. Sophomore Dani Weir then doubled, her ninth of the season, driving in Kooistra and Delagrammaticas for a 2-0 lead. Weir had advanced to third with two outs when freshman Carolyn Jones drove her in on a single, earning her first collegiate RBI.
The Eagles scored runs in the third, fifth and sixth inning for a 6-0 advantage and one inning left to play. Junior Renee Ramos homered for the fifth time this season in the top of the third inning. Tunstall had her second hit of the game and 11th RBI of the season, scoring Booth in the top of the fifth. Freshman Allie Thunstrom scored from third for the Eagles' sixth run in the top of sixth on a bunt single by Peyton, earning up her 31st hit and 13th RBI this year.
BC collected six runs on eight hits overall in game two, while Florida State got it's lone run in the bottom of the seventh inning and tallied five hits.
