Softball Sweeps First Home Stand

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College softball team (16-15, 1-2 ACC) took two games in its first home stand of the season against Saint Peter's College (0-13, 0-0 MAAC) by scores of 3-2 and 7-2 on Tuesday.
Senior captain Amanda Booth led the Eagles offensively, going 3-for-3 at the plate with two homeruns. She now has four homeruns on the season and 12 RBIs.
BC-3, Saint Peter's-2-- Sophomore Taylor Peyton (9-5) started her 12th game of the season and picked up her seventh complete game in the win. She faced 27 batters, allowed just three hits, two earned runs and struck out eight.
In the bottom of the first inning, BC took an early 2-0 lead. Peyton led the inning off with a walk and advanced to third on two sacrifice hits by Booth and junior Renee Ramos. With two outs, sophomore catcher Amy Tunstall then homered for the second time this season.
BC struck again in the bottom of the third inning on a homerun by Booth, putting the Eagles up 3-0. Saint Peter's tried to rally back, but came up short, scoring a run in the top of the sixth and seventh innings. The Eagles won their 15th game of the season by the 3-2 score.
BC-7, Saint Peter's-2-- Freshman Allison Gage (7-9) started the second match-up for her 16th start this season. She pitched six strong innings, facing 25 batters. She allowed two runs on six hits and struck out a season and career-high six batters.
BC took the early lead again, tallying two runs in the bottom of the first. With one out and Booth on first, Ramos began the offensive rally with a single. The bases were loaded after an error and fielder's choice for freshman Irene Delagrammaticas, who singled for her 20th hit this season, scoring Ramos. Freshman Allie Thunstrom, earning her first collegiate start, walked for the second run of the inning, putting BC up 2-0.
Sophomore Dani Weir put two more on the board for the Eagles in the bottom of the third, tallying her second homerun of the season. Ramos homered for the fourth time this season in the bottom of the fourth inning, lifting the eagles to a 5-0 advantage.
Saint Peter's scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning off a single by shortstop Chrissie Gannon. BC was then able to top the Peahens' attempt at a comeback tallying single runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings. Delagrammaticas got her second RBI of the day on a sacrifice hit and Booth homered for the second time. The Eagles finished the game with seven runs on ten hits, earning their 16th win this season.
Boston College will remain the home team tomorrow, playing host to Holy Cross in another double-header. The first game is slated to begin at 3 p.m.
