Softball Takes Two From Sacred Heart

Fairfield, Conn. - The Boston College softball team (14-15, 1-2 ACC) broke out offensively for the second time in three days, sweeping Sacred Heart (6-11, 0-0 NEC) by scores of 2-1 and 13-5 in double-header action Saturday.
Sophomore Taylor Peyton (8-5) continued to shine in the circle and at the plate for the Eagles. In game one she notched her second-consecutive complete game, allowing just three hits and striking out nine, a season-high. In six at-bats, she collected four hits and drove in single-game high five RBIs..
BC-2, SHU-1-- The Pioneers tallied their lone run in the bottom of the first inning, off a single by junior Betsy Harvey. The Eagles struck back in the top of the second inning, tallying their two runs. Sophomore Dani Weir started the inning with a single. Senior captain Carley McNary reached on a fielder's choice and then stole second base, putting her in scoring position with two outs. Freshman Irene Delagrammaticas singled, bringing McNary home for her sixth RBI of the season. Delagrammaticas, then scored the second run of the inning on an error by the shortstop.
The rest of the game became a pitcher's duel between Peyton and Megan Spehar (4-5). They each pitched the complete seven innings, allowing a total of nine combined hits. Peyton notched her eighth win of the season and allowed just one earned run for the second straight game.
BC 13, SHU-5-- Freshman pitcher Allison Gage (6-9) pitched her second-consecutive complete game as well in the second game of the double header. In her sixth win she faced 35 batters, allowed nine hits, three earned runs and stuck out two.
The Pioneers tallied a run in the bottom of the first and second innings, jumping to a 2-0 lead. The Eagles rallied back in the top of the fourth inning, driving in five runs. Senior Angela Pandolfo tripled for the second time this season, driving McNary home for the first run. Delagrammticas then singled and stole second. Freshman Allie Thunstrom walked. With the two runners on, Peyton doubled to right field, scoring Pandolfo, Delagrammaticas and Thunstrom. After Peyton advanced to third on a fly out, junior Renee Ramos singled for her 17th RBI this season. The offense produced another eight runs in the top of the fifth and sixth innings. In the fifth inning, Delagrammaticas continued her hot hitting, tallying a two-run double. Thunstrom singled for her first collegiate RBI and Peyton notched her fifth and final RBI of the day with a single.
In the sixth inning Thunstrom singled again for the team's 10th run. The 11th run came from a bases-loaded walk. Senior captain Amanda Booth continued the Eagles rally with her 21st hit and 10th RBI of the season. Ramos wrapped up the Eagles offensive display, knocking in her second RBI of the day, scoring Thunstrom and notching the score at 13-2. The Pioneers tallied three runs in the bottom of the inning, but were unable to rally back.
BC will have their first home game of the season on Tuesday, March 26, taking on Saint Peter's in a double-header. The first game will begin at 3 p.m. at Shea Field in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
