Softball Sweeps Fairfield On Road

Fairfield, Conn. - In their first New England area game, the Boston College softball team (12-15, 1-2 ACC) swept home team Fairfield (4-14, 0-0 MAAC) by scores of 4-1 and then 12-2 in double-header action Thursday.
Starting pitchers Taylor Peyton (7-5) and Allison Gage (5-9) picked up the two wins; allowing just one combined earned run and pitching their fifth and six respective complete games this season. BC's offense knocked the ball around for 20 hits and 16 total runs.
BC-4, Fairfield-1-- Peyton continued her dual-threat pitching and batting in game one. In her seventh win she faced 28 batters, allowed five hits and one earned run while striking out three. She also went 1-for-3 at the plate, knocking in two RBIs, her sixth and seventh this season.
Boston College jumped to an early lead in the top of the second inning against the Stags. Sophomore Dani Weir started things off with a double. Freshman Irene Delagrammaticas then singled to right. After one out, senior captain Carley McNary reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Weir to score and picking up the RBI. With two outs in the inning and a runner on third and second, Peyton hit a two RBI single, scoring Delagrammaticas and McNary.
The Eagles took their 3-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth. Fairfield scored one run in the inning off a fielder's choice. BC escaped the inning with the two-run lead and added another run in the bottom of the seventh. With two outs in the inning, senior captain Amanda Booth homered to left field, her second home-run this season and sixth RBI. Her home-run sealed the Eagles' 4-1 victory.
BC 12, Fairfield 2-- Gage, pitching five solid innings for the Eagles, started the second game. She faced 24 batters, allowed seven hits but no earned runs. Fairfield's two unearned runs came early, in the bottom of the first inning where the Eagles made two costly errors allowing the runs to score.
BC settled down afterwards and the offense led the game the rest of the way. In the top of the second the Eagles score four runs, two from a Booth single. She totaled four RBIs on the day. McNary scored in the inning on a wild pitch and Delagrammaticas singled for her fifth RBI of the season. The offensive spark continued for seven more runs in the top of the fourth inning. The runs were knocked in by doubles by Booth and Weir, singles by junior Renee Ramos and sophomore Amy Tunstall and a triple from senior Angela Pandolfo. In all, the Eagles notched seven hits and seven total runs, putting them up 11-2 at the end of the fourth inning.
The fifth inning sealed the Eagles' win. Peyton tripled to start off the inning and then Ramos singled, scoring Peyton. After today's games Ramos has a team-high 16 RBIs. BC finished the game with 14 hits, a season-high.
The Eagles continue their Connecticut road trip, taking on Sacred Heart in a double header on Saturday. The first game is slated to begin at noon.
