CLEMSON, S.C. - The No. 24 Clemson Tigers (10-6, 2-4 ACC) scored seven runs in the first inning and nine runs in the sixth, to defeat the Boston College Eagles (8-8, 2-4 ACC), 16-2, Sunday afternoon.
BC won the three-game series, 2-1, with a 6-4 win in game one and 7-6 victory in game two.
Six different Eagles picked up base hits on the afternoon. Michael Belfiore and Marc Perdios each tallied RBI singles, while Barry Butera and Eric Campbell collected a double apiece.
MacDonald (2-2) suffered the loss. The junior worked 2/3 of an inning before being pulled for Nick Asselin.
Asselin pitched a solid 5.0 innings and allowed one earned run on five hits with five strikeouts.
The Tigers erupted for seven runs off eight hits in the first inning to chase MacDonald from the game. Kyle Parker hit a two-run single and John Hinson collected a two-run triple to highlight the big inning for the Tigers.
Clemson right-hander starter Graham Stoneburner (3-0) held the Eagles hitless until the top of the fifth frame. Campbell started the fifth with a double to left field. Belfiore followed with a single up-the-middle to plate Campbell and give BC its first run of the day.
The Tigers tacked on nine more runs in the sixth. Parker hit a two-run blast to left field and Wilson Boyd connected for a two-run double to round out the 16 runs for Clemson.
In the eighth, Perdios plated Mickey Wiswall on a single to center field to give the Eagles their second run of the game.
BC is back on the diamond on Thursday March 20 in Blacksburg, Va. against Virginia Tech at 6 p.m.
SERIES NOTES: C Tony Sanchez went 5-for-12 in the series with two homers ... Sanchez extended his hit streak to 13 games ... 1B Michael Belfiore went 5-for-12 with five RBIs in the series ... LHP Pat Dean recorded his first collegiate win in game two ... Kurt Hayer and Chris Kowalski each tallied their first collegiate saves.
