Softball Sweeps Day Two of FGCU Tournament

Fort Myers, Fla. - On day two of the FGCU Spring Break Invitational, the Boston College softball team (5-4, 0-0 ACC) notched two wins against South Dakota State (3-4) by a score of 5-4 and Western Carolina (1-5) by a score of 6-3.
Junior shortstop Renee Ramos has knocked in four RBIs so far this tournament, three of them coming against Western Carolina. She went 2-for-3 against the Catmounts with a homerun. Sophomore pitcher Taylor Peyton picked up her third win of the season, allowing just two runs in five innings against the Jackrabbits.
BC-5, SDSU-4-- Boston College got their offense off and running early against the Jacks, scoring all five runs in the first three innings. Together the team collected 10 hits from seven different players. Senior Amanda Booth started the hitting streak with a single to right field, her sixth hit of the season. Peyton reached base on a fielder's choice and moved to second on Ramos' single. Sophomore Amy Tunstall, who had three hits in the game, singled, advancing both runners. An error made by South Dakota State's catcher allowed Peyton to score on the play, putting the Eagles up 1-0.
The Jackrabbits got runs across in the bottom of the first and second, taking the 2-1 advantage going into the third inning. BC's offense broke loose again in the top of the inning. After Booth walked, Peyton singled to left. Ramos reached on a fielder's choice and Booth advanced to third. Tunstall singled to center, scoring Booth. Freshman Irene Delagrammaticas bunted, allowing Ramos and pinch runner Carolyn Jones to advance. Sophomore catcher Dani Weir then knocked in two RBIs with a bases clearing double. The Eagles' four-run inning put the team up 5-2.
Peyton (3-1) also pitched five strong innings to gain her third win. She allowed just three hits, two runs and struck out two. Freshman Allison Gage picked up her first collegiate save.
BC-6, WESTERN CAROLINA-3-- Boston College got the offensive spark early in the game again, driving in two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Western Carolina knocked in two runs in the top of the fifth, but the Eagles countered their attack with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning. In the bottom of the seventh, with the score tied at 3-3, BC knocked in three more runs, giving them the final 6-3 edge. Booth and Ramos had two huge hits on the day with a triple and homerun, respectively. Junior Savana Lloyd got her second start and the win. She pitched four innings, giving up two runs and striking out two.
The Eagles will face Florida Gulf Coast in a rematch tomorrow at 11 a.m., concluding the team's second tournament of the season.
