Baseball Wins Game-Two against Georgia Southern, 14-7

STATESBORO, Ga. - Sophomore Sam Shaughnessy went 4-for-6 with three homeruns and four RBIs in the 14-7, Boston College (2-0, 0-0 ACC) win against Georgia Southern (0-2, 0-0 SoCon) in game-two of a doubleheader at J.I. Clements Stadium.
Shaughnessy hit a two-run homer in the third inning, and solo homers in the fourth and seventh innings to help BC sweep a doubleheader from Georgia Southern.
The Eagles totaled 15 hits in the game, including seven for homeruns. In addition to Shaughnessy's trio of homers, Eric Campbell, Barry Butera, Matt Hamlet and Garret Smith all went deep on the evening.
Six players collected multi-hit games for the Eagles including, Shaughnessy (4-for-6), Campbell (2-for-5), Butera (2-for-4), Hamlet (2-for-5), Michael Belfiore (2-for-4) and Tony Sanchez (2-for-5).
Junior right-hander Dan Houston (1-0) worked the first 5.1 innings to earn the win. Houston scattered 10 hits and added five strikeouts.
The Eagles broke a scoreless tie the third inning by hitting three separate two-run homeruns by Shaughnessy, Campbell and Smith to give BC a 6-0 lead.
BC added a run in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. In the fourth, Shaughnessy hit a solo homerun to centerfield. Hamlet added a solo homerun to leftfield in the fifth, and added a RBI single in the sixth inning.
In the seventh inning, Shaughnessy hit his third homer of the game, which made the score, 9-2.
Belfiore added a RBI single, and Butera connected for a three-run homer in the ninth inning to help secure a victory for the Eagles.
BC is back on the diamond, tomorrow, Feb. 24, against Georgia Southern. Game time is scheduled for noon at J.I. Clements Stadium.
