
Women's Basketball Swats Yellow Jackets

Boston College freshmen Carolyn Swords and Jaclyn Thoman combined for 27 points and nine rebounds to lead the Eagles to a 62-53 victory over ACC foe Georgia Tech at Conte Forum in front 4,218 fans on Monday night.
Boston College improved to 18-8 overall and 6-5 in the ACC, while Georgia Tech dropped to 19-7 overall and 5-6 in the conference. BC is now in fifth place in the ACC. The Eagles will travel to Tallahassee, FL to play Florida State at 7 p.m.
Swords finished with 14 points, four rebounds and two blocks, while Thoman added 13 points, while shooting 4-for-4 from the field, 3-for-3 from the three-point arc and 2-for-2 from the foul line. She also had five rebounds, two assists and three steals. Sophomore Ayla Brown added 11 points and six rebounds, while sophomore guard Mickel Picco contributed 10 points.
Georgia Tech was led by freshman Alex Montgomery, as she tied her career-high of 26 points. Iasia Heminway added 10 points and four steals in the loss.
The Eagles never relinquished the lead in the second half as they darted out to an 11 point lead on a three-pointer by Brown at 13:56. Montgomery sparked a comeback by hitting two three's to cut the lead to five points. Georgia Tech cut the lead to two points, 45-43 at 8:38 on a lay-up by Brigitte Ardossi.
BC increased the lead to seven points on a lay-up by Brown at 6:30 in the game. Four steals by the Yellow Jackets and six BC turnovers in a three minute span helped Georgia Tech cut the lead to 52-51, with 4:24 to play.
After two free throws by BC junior Brittanny Johnson, the Eagles went up by three with 2:53 to play. A quick turnover by Georgia Tech proved to be costly as Swords grabbed a missed three-pointer by Johnson and put it back up for a 56-51 Eagles lead at 1:59.
Thoman would start the foul shooting clinic as she hit two with 26 seconds to play giving BC a 58-53 lead. Brown and senior Rebecca Miles would hit two freebies each to seal the victory.
In the first half, Boston College held a slight, 31-28, lead behind 10 points from Picco and eight from Swords. The Eagles shot out quickly with a 15-8 lead seven minutes into the game. The Yellow Jackets slowly chipped away at the lead with the hot hand of Montgomery, who had 12 points in the half. Montgomery's deep three-pointer with 56 seconds left closed the halftime lead to just three points.
The Eagles shot 56.4 percent for the game and held the lead throughout the game. BC out-rebounded Georgia Tech, 30-21 but committed 23 turnovers, while Georgia Tech had 16 steals.
