
Women's Basketball Falls to FSU, 71-65

Tallahassee, Fla. - Boston College freshman Stefanie Murphy scored 24 points but it was not enough as the Eagles fell to Florida State, 71-65, at Tucker Center on Thursday night.
Boston College is now 18-9 overall and 6-6 in the ACC, while Florida State improved to 16-10 and 6-5 in the ACC.
The Eagles opened the game quick taking a 13-7 lead five minutes into the game behind four points each from Murphy and Carolyn Swords. At 9:48 in the half, Florida State's Courtney Ward tied the game, 20-20, on a three-pointer from the top of the key. After the two teams exchanged baskets, FSU pulled away on a traditional three-point play from Alysha Harvin.
Boston College's offense began to struggled when Brittanny Johnson left the game with an injury and four of the Eagles starters were saddled with fouls. FSU's Tania Davis-Cain, who had 16 at the half, would hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to give the Seminoles a 39-28 halftime lead.
BC battled back in the second half as Murphy scored six straight points to cut the halftime lead from 11 to five points, 39-34. A three-pointer by freshman LaShaunda Pratt at 11:55 cut the Seminoles lead, 49-46. The Eagles chipped away and at the eight minute mark, Ayla Brown's jumper on the baseline tied the game at 51-51.
FSU's Mara Freshour would score five straight points and the Seminoles went up 56-51. Four consecutive points from Murphy closed gap but the Eagles would not get any closer.
Murphy also grabbed nine rebounds, while Swords added 13 points and seven rebounds. Mickel Picco added eight points in the loss.
Florida State was led by Davis with 20 points and 14 points from Freshour.
