
Women's Basketball Falls to Virginia, 67-57

The Boston College women's basketball team dropped a tough 67-57 loss to ACC foe Virginia at Conte Forum tonight. The Eagles are now 6-7 in the ACC and 18-10 overall, while Virginia improved to 9-4 in the ACC and 21-8 overall.
Down at the half, Boston College went inside to freshman Carolyn Swords. The 6-foot-6 center score 11 of her 18 points at the start of the half and the Eagles were down, 47-49 with six minutes to play.
The Cavaliers went up 59-47 on a 10-0 run sparked by four points from Lyndra Littles and a deep three-pointer from Paulisha Kellum. Virginia's lead grew to 14 points on two foul shots by Littles as the Eagles went cold down the stretch. BC junior Corey Rusin kept the Eagles alive as she scored eight of her 12 points in the final 10 minutes of action but it was not enough.
The Eagles were hurt by 18 first half turnovers. The Eagles led 5-0 to start the game but turnovers changed the game. Virginia scored eight fast break points off four straight BC turnovers and at the 10 minutes mark the Eagles were down, 20-15. The Eagles closed the gap to three points at the eight minute mark on a lay-up by Stefanie Murphy. Four turnovers by the Eagles in the final two minutes of the half gave Virginia a 33-21 lead.
The Eagles shot 45 percent from the field for the game but finished with 22 turnovers. Swords led the Eagles with 18 points and nine rebounds, while Stefanie Murphy added 12 points and three steals and Corey Rusin contributed 12 points.
Virginia was led by sophomore Monica Wright with 21 points while Lyndra Littles added 16 and Kellum contributed 13 points. The Cavaliers had 18 fast break points to the Eagles four points.

Prior to the game the Boston College women's program honored three seniors - senior forward Rebecca Miles, senior forward Kaydia Kentish and senior team manager Mike Gibson ... Miles and Kentish earned starts ... Prior to the game, sophomore Ayla Brown had started 43 consecutive games ...The Eagles went 16-for-16 from the free throw line. The old record was 12-for-12 vs. NC Central on Nov. 12, 2006. The last time the Eagles were perfect from the foul line was against Georgia Tech (8-for-8) on Jan. 25, 2007.
