Second Half Woes Sinks Women's Basketball

The Boston College women's basketball team suffered a tough 80-60 loss to Minnesota in the ACC/Big 10 Challenge in front of 4,472 fans in Williams Arena tonight. Boston College is now 5-2 on the season, while Minnesota improved to 8-1.
Boston College ended a three-game road swing with a 2-1 record and will now host New Hampshire on Tuesday, November 9 at Conte Forum (7 p.m.).
Minnesota's Katie Ohm hit a career-high seven three-pointers in the game, and finished with 23 points to lead the Gophers in scoring. Senior Emily Fox added 16 points, while Jackie Voight added 10 points and had 10 rebounds.
Boston College was led by junior guard Mickel Picco with 14 points, while Stefanie Murphy had 11 points and Carolyn Swords added 10 points.
The Eagles held a 35-30 lead at the half but could not hold Minnesota off. The Gophers open the half with a 9-4 run in the first three minutes to tie the game at 39-39. Three minutes later, the Gophers were up by six after Kay Sylvia hit a three-pointer. BC would never get close as Minnesota's Katie Ohm (23 points) hit her sixth of seven three's in the game to give Minnesota a 63-51 lead with eight minutes to play. The Eagles shot just 36 percent from the floor.
In the first half, BC built a 10 point lead after sophomore Veronica Wilson hit a three-pointer from the wing at 10:53 in the first half. Picco extended the Eagles led to 15 points with a three-pointer in the corner at 7:30 in the half. The Eagles looked like they were in control but the Gophers made a late run in the final three minutes of the half to cut the lead to just five points at the break.
Game Notes: Boston College shot 57 percent in the first half ... BC was out-rebounded 32-29 for only the second time this season ... The Eagles did have seven blocks, two by Swords and two by Veronica Wilson. It is the second time this season BC has recorded seven blocks ... Picco extended her three-point streak to 14 games made, dating back to the 2007-08 season ... The 25 points scored by BC in the second half were the least amount of points scored by the Eagles in a half this season.
