GREENSBORO, N.C. - Redshirt freshman quarterback Dominique Davis and junior linebacker Mark Herzlich were named Atlantic Coast Conference Players of the Week after their performances in Boston College's 24-21 win at Wake Forest on Saturday. Davis was named the conference's Rookie of the Week while Herzlich earned Defensive Back of the Week honors.
It marks the third time this season that Herzlich has been named a Player of the Week by the conference and the first for Davis.
Davis entered the game for senior QB Chris Crane, who broke his collar bone in the second quarter. He came in and completed 13-of-23 for 103 yards and engineered a nine-play, 70-yard drive that led to Boston College's game-winning touchdown. The Lakeland, FL native completed passes of 36 (career long) and 21 yards and ultimately scored the touchdown himself on a one yard QB sneak with 1:12 left in the game.
Herzlich dominated the defensive side of the ball for the Eagles as he finished with nine tackles and a pair of interceptions. Both picks came in the second quarter; he returned the first 34 yards for a touchdown while the second set up a field goal. It was his second interception return for a touchdown this season, which is tied for the most in the country.
The Eagles held Wake Forest to 191 yards of total offense, the lowest output by the Demon Deacons in the Jim Grobe era.
Herzlich has five interceptions on the season, tied for the most on the team with senior SS Paul Anderson. His five interceptions are the third most in the nation and rank second among linebackers. He is one of three linebackers in the country to have a pair of touchdowns following an interception.
The Wayne, PA product leads the Eagles in solo tackles (69), total tackles (92), pass break-ups (six), and forced fumbles (two). He also has eight tackles for a loss and a sack. His 6.27 solo tackles per game ranks fifth in the nation.
Herzlich was named the ACC Defensive Back of the Week on October 20 and was the conference's Co-Defensive Lineman of the Week on November 10.
