Chestnut Hill, MA - The Boston College Women's Lacrosse team has tabbed three seniors to captain the team for the 2009 season.
Attackers Maura Mahoney and Jenna McCabe and Midfielder Lauren Fitzpatrick were chosen as team captains for their experience and leadership both on and off the field.
Mahoney started all 17 games last season for the Eagles and led the team in assists and draw controls.
McCabe who also served as a captain her junior year, was BC's leading goal scorer with 43 goals and second in points. She was named to the All-ACC team for the 2nd consecutive year and was a Northeast Region first team All-American.
Fitzpatrick was BC's third-leading goal scorer with 37 tallies, scoring the gamewinner against North Carolina to give the Eagles their first victory over a top-10 ranked team. She led the team with 23 caused turnovers and was second on the team with 23 ground balls in 2008.
"There is no question Maura, Jenna and Lauren have what it takes to lead the 2009. These three student-athletes will undoubtedly guide the Eagles through ups and downs; however, the strength of the entire senior class and the support their classmates provide will be crucial to our success," said Head Coach Bowen Holden. "I have no doubts the Class of 2009 will leave its legacy behind."
Women's Lacrosse opens their spring season on the road February 21 at 12 p.m. against Canisius College.
