Women's Cross Country Finishes Second At ACC Championships

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Seniors Mallory Champa and Nichole Lister both finished in the top 15 to lead the Boston College women's cross country team to a second place finish at the 2008 ACC Championships at Ranson-Hamrick Course on Saturday. The second place finish is the best for the Eagles since joining the conference in 2005.
Florida State won the race with a total of 27 points and had the top runner as Susan Kjijken ran a 20:11.0. Virginia Tech's Tas Fanning finished right behind her at 20:11.6 Boston College had 106 points and Wake Forest came in third with 112 points.
Champa turned in a time of 21:13.4 and finished 12th overall to lead all BC runners. Lister placed 14th with a time of 21:21.2. Both women earned All-Conference Team honors for their performances. It marks the third-straight season that Champa has been an All-ACC runner.
Junior Brielle Chabot recorded a time of 21:30.1 and finished 23rd overall while classmates Jessica Driscoll (21:38.6) and Lauren Johnston (21:42.6) finished 27th and 30th, respectively.
Sophomore Caroline King notched a 21:51.0 on the 6k course to finish 36th and senior Mary Heitkamp placed 44th with a time of 22:20.8. Junior Gretchen Andrus finished 50th at 22:15.5.
Senior Nikki Tufts (22:27.3) and junior Kelly Gross (23:15.7) finished 56th and 81st, respectively.
The women will now prepare for the NCAA Regional Championship in New York City on November 15.
