Chestnut Hill, MA - Boston College Field Hockey is proud to host its second annual Multiple Sclerosis fundraiser game on Sunday October 12th 2008. against Dartmouth. Two games will be hosted this day at Boston College, with game one featuring UNC vs. Yale at 12 noon, and game two featuring BC vs. Dartmouth at 3pm.
These games will honor BC senior forward Kathleen Murphy, who was diagnosed with MS in April 2007. Murphy has shown tremendous courage and poise by battling this disease and maintaining both her academic and athletic commitments at BC.
At both games on October 12th, black and orange ribbons will be distributed to fans attending the game, and all monies raised will be donated to the National MS Society. In addition, all four teams this day will wear orange wristbands, with "BCFH #17" in support of Kathleen Murphy. At half-time of the BC game, a special presentation involving the MS Society will take place.
In the United States today, there are approximately 400,000 people with multiple sclerosis (MS)--with 200 more people diagnosed every week. Worldwide, MS is thought to affect more than 2.5 million people.
Last spring Murphy and the field hockey team participated in the MS Lifelines Walk in Boston under the team Murphy's Law and raised over $12,000 for MS research and awareness.
