
Field Hockey Tops Appalachian State 11-0

The Boston College Field Hockey Team closed out their trip to North Carolina this weekend with an 11-0 win over Appalachian State.
Seven different players scored for BC including a hat trick by junior forward Chelsey Feole and 2 goal efforts by senior midfielder Michelle Tavener and senior forward Bob Dirks.
The Eagles started the scoring early, with senior forward Kathleen Murphy netting her first goal of the season less than a minute into the first period.
Murphy followed that up with an assist at 5:08 in the first on Feole's first goal of the game.
Feole followed up her first goal with another dish four minutes later assisted by Bob Dirks and sophomore defender Emily Kozniuk. Dirks then took over recording both of her tallies on the day in less than two minutes in the first period. Feole and junior midfielder Caitlin McGovern were credited with assists.
Tavener recorded her first goal of the season halfway through the first with a backhand shot from the right side of the circle to beat the Appalachian State keeper to put the Eagles up 6-0.
Redshirt Freshman Marlotte van den Bergh recorded her first collegiate goal at 18:38 on a pass from sophomore defender Lexy Ratering-Arntz with an open shot on the right side of the net.
Feole's second goal of the game came courtesy of a penalty stroke.
In the second period junior Caitlyn Buckanavage had a multi-point game recording a goal and two assists for the Eagles.
Sophomore Jessica Roberts also scored for BC on a penalty corner late in the second period and Tavener notched her second goal of the game with four minutes left to give BC an 11-0 win.
Senior goalkeeper Julia Berkowtiz and sophomore Kristine Stigas split time in the net, with Berkowitz stopping three shots and Stigas stopping 1 to give BC the shutout victory.
BC had 35 shots to Appalachian State's 8.
The Eagle's return the the Heights to face North Carolina in the fourth ACC match-up of the season Friday Oct. 10 at 4 p.m.
