NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. - Junior linebacker Mark Herzlich has been named a quarterfinalist for the fifth annual Lott Trophy, awarded to college football's Defensive IMPACT Player of the Year. Herzlich is one of 20 student-athletes selected as a quarterfinalist.
The Lott Trophy is named after Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott and is the first and only college football award to equally recognize athletic performance and the personal character attributes of the player. The winner will be announced at a gala black-tie banquet at the Pacific Club in Newport Beach on December 14.
Herzlich leads the Eagles with 62 tackles and 42 solo stops. He also has five tackles for a loss, two interceptions, a sack, and a pass break up. As an outside linebacker and a valuable part of kickoff coverage, he has led BC in tackles in four of the seven games this season.
Herzlich is also a member of the Butkus Award Watch List.
