Chestnut Hill, MA - The Boston College Harry Parker Boathouse officially opened for use yesterday, just in time for The Head of the Charles Regatta this weekend.
BC Women's Rowing will have three boats racing this weekend, two boats in heats on Saturday and one on Sunday.
A dedication ceremony was held on Thursday night to commemorate the partnership between BC Women's Crew and Community Rowing that allowed for the construction of a new waterfront facility.
The new boathouse located on Nonantum Road along the Charles River between Boston and Newton is a state-of-the art building featuring 30,000 square feet of space and a unique architectural design that brings the outdoors inside.
The main common room has space for 60 indoor rowing machines and the building features a first-class weight room, classrooms and is equipped for wireless capabilities. The building is also environmentally friendly with geo-thermal heating units and special drainage to keep runoff from the boathouse and surrounding parking areas from draining into the river.
The building also functions as the headquarters for Community Rowing, which runs over 1,000 programs, ranging from youths to adults, Learn To Row Programs to competitive masters rowing.
