CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College will head down to Raleigh to take on NC State on Saturday, October 4 at noon at Carter-Finley Stadium. This will be the second meeting between the Eagles and former head coach Tom O'Brien as BC won last year's meeting, 37-17, at Alumni Stadium.
BC lost a 17-15 heartbreaker the last time it went to visit the Wolfpack in 2006. The Eagles led 15-10 with a minute to go, but Daniel Evans led NC State on the game-winning drive with less than a minute left and no timeouts.
This will be the Eagles' first true road game of the season. BC defeated Kent State back on August 30, 21-0, at Cleveland Browns Stadium. With a number of new faces in the lineup, the Eagles will experience their first true road test in a hostile environment.
"We are preparing (the underclassmen) for (the atmosphere)," junior WR Rich Gunnell said. "A lot of the older guys are going to make sure they know how it is down there. I remember two years ago when it was my first time traveling, we went to NC State and the atmosphere was crazy. It's just an adjustment and they're going to have to show maturity when we get down there."
Senior CB Kevin Akins, who moved from linebacker to cornerback during preseason camp, has started the last two games and been effective. He has 15 tackles on the season, two tackles for a loss, a sack, a pass break up, and an interception that he returned 62 yards, narrowly missing the end zone.
"This week is great because we are going against our old coach, we are starting our ACC stint and I'm playing a new position," he said. "You can't ask for any better challenge than that. They know us and we know them so it's going to be fun."
