NEWARK, Del. - After a tough loss Friday night to the University of Delaware, Boston College was unable to bounce back as they were swept by South Carolina 3-0, Saturday afternoon at the Delaware Invitational.
The loss drops BC to 0-2 on the season, while the Gamecocks improve to 2-0.
The Eagles struggled on the offensive side, only managing a .092 attack percentage against South Carolina. The Gamecocks were able to connect on .256 percent of the attacks they attempted.
In game one, BC held a tie score with South Carolina, 9-9. The Gamecocks went on an 11-4 run to give them a commanding 20-13 lead that the Eagles could not overcome, losing the game 30-20.
It was difficult for the Eagles to penetrate the defense of South Carolina, only converting .057 of their attacks in the second game. South Carolina collected their highest attack percentage of all three games (.297), to take the game by a 30-19 score.
During the third game, BC was in striking distance of the Gamecocks, trailing 20-17. Unfortunately for the Eagles they were unable to get any closer. South Carolina went on a 10-5 run, to win the third game (30-22) and take the match.
Offensively, the Eagles were led by outside hitter Taylor Williams, who registered eight kills. Setter Brittany Pierpont led BC in assists, distributing 15 on the afternoon.
On the defensive side, BC freshman Cathy Quilico collected 12 digs, while senior Abigail Hasebroock recorded four blocks for the Eagles.
BC is back in action today, Saturday Aug. 25, as they take on the Bearcats of Binghamton. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Viera Court in Newark, Del.
