
Volleyball Sweeps Northeastern and Holy Cross

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College volleyball team swept Northeastern and Holy Cross, each by the score of 3-0 during the Boston College/Northeastern Invitational at Power Gymnasium to pick up their first wins of the season.
With the two victories, the Eagles improved their record to 2-3 overall. The Huskies of Northeastern dropped to 1-4, while the Crusaders of Holy Cross fell to 1-2 on the year.
In the first match versus the Huskies, setter Brittany Pierpont and outside hitter Kelsey Johnson recorded double-doubles to lead the Eagles to victory. Pierpont registered a match-high 32 assists, and recorded 11 digs. Johnson connected on 11 kills while adding 10 digs.
BC and Northeastern battled in all three games, with the Eagles edging the Huskies by no more than six points in any game. The Eagles won by scores of: 30-25, 30-28 and 30-24.
In the second match for BC, the Eagles were able to stay hot sweeping Holy Cross, 30-11, 33-31 and 30-24.
BC as a team connected on .324 percent of the attacks they attempted against the Crusaders. The Eagles were led by middle hitter Audrey Eichler who scored on 15 of her 22 attack attempts (.636 percent). The 15 kills for Eichler were a career and match-high.
Brittany Pierpont had another solid game, dishing out a match-high 37 assists, while contributing five digs, four service aces and three kills.
BC will attempt to extend their winning streak to three games tomorrow, Friday, Aug. 31, against New Hampshire in the Eagles third game of the Boston College/Northeastern Invitational. Game time is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. The fourth and final game of the tournament for BC is at 3:00 p.m. verses the Pioneers of Sacred Heart.
