CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College volleyball team extended their winning streak to four games by beating both New Hampshire and Sacred Heart on Friday at Power Gym.
The Eagles went undefeated in the Boston College/Northeastern Invitational, winning all four games, improving their overall record to 4-3 on the season. After defeating Northeastern and Holy Cross Thursday, the Eagles beat New Hampshire, 3-1, and swept Sacred Heart, 3-0, on Friday. Over the four matches, BC posted a 12-1 game record, sweeping every opponent but New Hampshire.
In Friday's first match, the Eagles battled against the Wildcats of New Hampshire. After falling in game one, 30-23, BC rallied to win three straight games (30-21, 30-27 and 30-24) to take the match from the visiting Wildcats.
Freshman Audrey Eichler connected on a match-high 18 kills, while also tallying four service aces. Freshman Kristen Baader registered a double-double, contributing 17 kills and 13 digs.
The loss for New Hampshire was their first of the season, dropping them to 4-1 overall.
BC continued their winning streak against Sacred Heart, who they defeated, 3-0. The loss dropped the Pioneers to 0-3 on the year.
The Eagles played outstanding defense against the Pioneers, holding them to a .000 attacking percentage, and not allowing Sacred Heart to score more than 18 points in any of the three games. Over the course of the match, ten of the eleven BC players registered a dig, led by freshman Cathy Quilico who totaled a match-high 14 on the afternoon.
Offensively, BC hit at a .400 attacking percentage, led by Eichler who tallied 13 kills and senior Kelsey Johnson who connected for 11 kills of her own.
The Eagles are back in action Friday, Sept. 7, when BC takes on Michigan State in the Harvard Invitational. The tournament will be held in Cambridge, Mass., with game time scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
