The defense stole the show as the Boston College football team conducted the second of four preseason intrasquad scrimmages Wednesday evening in Alumni Stadium.
Sophomore linebacker Mike McLaughlin registered eight tackles on the night, including two tackles-for-loss. Senior cornerback Taji Morris had five tackles and two Eagles - senior cornerback DeJuan Tribble and sophomore defensive end Austin Giles - each had an interception.
"I'd like to see a little more offensive production in the next scrimmage," Coach Jeff Jagodzinski said. "If we keep doing what we're doing on defense, we'll be fine."
Senior quarterback Matt Ryan completed 13-of-24 passes for 129 yards on the night, while junior Chris Crane was 11-16 for 76 yards. Freshman running back Jeff Smith led the Eagles in rushing with 69 yards on 14 carries. True freshman wide receiver Ifeanyi Momah impressed, catching three passes for 90 yards, including a 44-yard touchdown bomb from true freshman quarterback Dominique Davis.
The Eagles will take the day off Thursday for team and individual photos and meetings. Practice will resume Friday with a double session. The third preseason scrimmage is scheduled for Sunday afternoon.
