The Boston College football team completed its first day of double sessions by holding the first of four preseason scrimmages Saturday evening in Alumni Stadium.
"I was really pleased with the effort," Coach Jeff Jagodzinski said. "I told the guys, I want to see 100% screaming effort tonight, and...the guys did that."
Senior quarterback Matt Ryan completed 10-of-19 passes for 81 yards and two touchdowns, a 19-yard strike to sophomore receiver Rich Gunnell and a 17-yarder to senior Kevin Challenger. Junior running back A.J. Brooks led all rushers with 54 yards on six carries. Junior linebacker Robert Francois was the leading tackler of the night with six. Senior cornerback DeJuan Tribble recorded an interception of a Ryan pass.
"All we were concerned about tonight was alignment, assignment and communication," Jagodzinski said. "We're going to get better. We're light years away from where we were in the spring, light years."
The team will alternate between single and double-session days from Sunday through Thursday, with the second scrimmage scheduled for Wednesday evening.
