Three Eagles Selected in MLB Draft

Three Boston College baseball players were selected in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Friday. Senior Kevin Boggan (Lexington, Mass.), junior Terry Doyle (Warwick, R.I.) and senior Joe Ayers (Juneau, Alaska) all were picked Friday.
Boggan, a righthanded pitcher, was selected by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the 19th round. He finished the 2007 season with a 5-5 record and a 3.73 earned-run average. Boggan fanned 78 batters, while walking 34 in 79.2 innings of work.
Doyle, another righthanded pitcher, was taken by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 21st round. He finished the spring campaign with a 4-5 record and a 5.87 earned-run average. He recorded 47 strikeouts and 30 walks in 69.0 innings. Doyle earned All-League honors last summer in the Cape Cod Baseball League.
Ayers, a second baseman, was chosen by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 48th round. He hit .280 in 49 games this spring. He registered 44 hits, including nine doubles, one triple and two home runs. He drove in 21 runs. Ayers had a .967 fielding percentage. The Juneau, Alaska, resident, who began his college career at Stanford, saw action at third base and shortstop in 2006.
