Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College Softball team will play its final home game of the season this afternoon when they take on the Providence Friars at Shea Field beginning at 4pm.
Today will be the final home game for the Eagles trio of slugging seniors: Jenna Macchi (Milford, Mass.), Britney Thompson (Bountiful, Utah), and Ashley Obrest (Elmwood park, Ill.).
Thompson leads the team in batting average (.403), hits (48), homeruns (11), and rbis (28). She is currently three homeruns shy of tying Cara Blumfield's school record of 14 homeruns in a season set in 2001.
Macchi is the team's second leading hitter with a .323 BA, 9 hrs, and 27 rbis. She has made only two errors while playing a sensational shortstop position for the Eagles this year.
Obrest has been the team's defensive backbone, playing most of her 39 games at the catcher position. She ranks third on the team in hits (30), fourth in homeruns (5), and fourth in rbis (14). Yesterday, she lifted the Eagles to victory over BU with a dramatic tie-breaking two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning.
After today, the Eagles will travel to Maryland for a weekend series, before taking off for the ACC tournament at Florida State next week.
Please come down to Shea Field this afternoon and cheer on the Eagles softball squad for the final time this season.
