GREENSBORO, N.C. - The All-Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball team was announced today by Commissioner John Swofford, and sophomore Eric Campbell has been named to Second-Team All-ACC. The Norwich, Conn. native is the first Eagle baseball player to earn this award since the school entered the league in 2005. The team is selected by a vote of the league's 12 head coaches.
Campbell, a third baseman, concluded his sophomore season with a .350 batting average, which led the team and placed him in the top-20 in the ACC. He also led the Eagles in a number of offensive categories including: hits, RBI, slugging percentage, and on base percentage.
His 20 doubles were also best on the team and good enough for a tie for second in conference. Campbell played an integral role in the Eagles' run at a postseason bid. BC, who played a shortened two-game series with Virginia last weekend, was edged out by Wake Forest University who claimed the eighth and final spot to the ACC Championships in Jacksonville, Fla. beginning Wednesday, May 23.
Florida State junior Tony Thomas, Jr., the 2007 ACC Player of the Year, heads up the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball team. North Carolina's Dustin Ackley was the coaches' choice as the ACC Freshman of the Year and Florida State's Bryan Henry was named ACC Pitcher of the Year after finishing the regular season with a perfect 14-0 record and a 2.50 earned run average.
