Three Eagles Women Win Titles At Brown Invitational

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The women's outdoor track and field was in action at the Brown Invitational over the weekend in Providence, RI. The Eagles came home with three first-place finishes amongst a number of solid performances.
Freshman Caitlin Bailey once again excelled in the 800 meter event, winning the event by nearly a second (2:10.92). In second place was Bailey's teammate, junior Mary Heitkamp, who came in nearly three seconds ahead of the third-place finisher (2:11.88).
In the 1500 meter run, Eagles freshman Jessica Driscoll finished just ahead of a pack of Providence College runners to take home first-place (4:25.68). Fellow Eagles junior Jennifer Heyde (4:38.45) and freshman Gretchen Andrus (4:39.29) came in sixth and seventh, respectively.
The Eagles dominated in the 5000 meter run, which was won by freshman Kelly Gross (18:15.03), who finished 25 seconds ahead of her closest competition. sophomore Medena Knespl (18:54.67), Jessica Rogers (19:02.70), and Catherine Barrett (19:20.72) finished fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.
Elsewhere, freshman Meaghan Callahan was very busy, taking fifth in the 100 meter dash (12.55s) and fourth in the 200 meter dash (25.95s). Sophomore Kara Musso took fifth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:06.14). Junior Carly Rayburn tied for third in the pole vault with a jump of 3.35 meters. Freshman Melissa Hadfield finished fourth in the long jump, reaching a height of 5.57 meters.
The 4x100 meter relay team finished second out of eight teams, finishing just behind Boston University.
The Eagles run next the weekend of May 11th, when they will compete in the ECAC and New England Championships.
