CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - After dropping game one of a double header, the Eagles and Tar Heels took the field again and North Carolina handed the Eagles a 7-2 decision in a game that was suspended last night and resumed today at Shea Field.
The Eagles would again get on the board first, this time in the bottom of the second inning. With one out in the inning, Robert Anston would walk and then advanced to third on a double down the left field line by Ryan Hutchinson. Anston would score on a sacrifice by Barry Butera giving the Eagles 1-0 lead.
The Eagles threatened in the bottom of the fourth but could not capitalize. With runners on second and third, Peter Frates would line out to the pitcher and the Eagles would get doubled up, ending the threat.
Carolina would take the lead back in the top of the sixth. With two outs and a runner on second, Dustin Ackley would single to right field, scoring Reid Fronk. The very next batter, Tim Federowicz would hit a sac fly to right, scoring Ackley from third and giving the Tar Heels a 2-1 lead.
The Tar Heels would score four times in the top of the seventh, extending their lead to 6-1. Seth Williams would start the rally as he hit an RBI single through the left side, scoring Benji Johnson.
Dustin Ackley would follow with a single to center field, knocking Jeanes out of the game. Tim Federowicz would welcome BC Geoff Oxley with a double to left center, bringing home two more runs. After an intentional walk to Josh Horton, Carolina would add one more run on a single by Chad Flack, pushing their advantage to five runs.
BC would threaten in the bottom of the eighth as they put their first two runners on. But, Carolina would benefit from a double play ball and get out of the inning unscathed.
The Tar Heels would load the bases in the top of the ninth but would only score once on a sac fly by Benji Johnson, making it 7-1. The Eagles would lead off the bottom of the ninth with a home run by Peter Frates. After a walk to Jett Ruiz, Carolina reliever Rob Wooten would retire the next three batters, ending the Eagles' threat.
