The Eagles took on the University of Hawaii in their second game yesterday. The Eagles were looking for revenge, after dropping a 5-1 decision to the Rainbow Wahine on Tuesday in their Hawaiian tour opener. Unfortunately, Hawaii snuck past BC 4-3 on a walk-off homerun in extra innings.
Britney Thompson led the Eagles at the plate and on the mound. The senior threw seven solid innings allowing three earned runs on just four hits. She was also 2-3 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored.
Thompson got the Eagles rolling with a homer in the second. Hawaii struck back with two in the fourth before the Eagles tied things up in the sixth when shortstop Jenna Macchi came around to score.
The score remained 2-2 into extra innings. Macchi scored on an Ashley Obrest sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth to give the Eagles a 3-2 lead. Unfortunately for BC, Hawaii second baseman Alana Power deposited a Thompson offering over the fence for a game-winning walk-off homerun and the 4-3 victory.
This marks the second time in two days the Eagles lost in extra innings. BC will play Hawaii again today.
