The Boston College women's rowing team returned to the water on Saturday,
March 10 for a scrimmage against Clemson and Penn in Lake Hartwell, S.C.
In the first tune-up to the spring season, the Eagles caught an early
glimpse of ACC foe, Clemson Tigers and Eastern Sprints foe, the University
of Pennsylvania Quakers. The scrimmage consisted of 1500-, 1000-, and
500-meter races for coxed varsity eight, coxed varsity four, and coxed
novice eight boats.
BC's first varsity eight raced well in the initial 1500-meter race, where
they clocked in at 5:17.50, 5.3 seconds behind Clemson and 4.4 seconds ahead
of Penn. They also placed second behind Clemson in both 1000-meter races.
The novice eight's best finish came in the first 1500-meter race. They
clocked in at 5:55.24 - good for third place behind Clemson's 5:52.19
finish.
Eagles novice coach Wendy Wilbur applauded the effort. Wilbur said, "Clemson
and Penn were great early season competition for us."
The Eagles will be back in action on March 31 on the Charles River against
local rivals Northeastern and Dartmouth.
